Yes, it has been a very big birthday month in the Smith house. Hannah's elephant--Butternut--turned 2 on Nov 1st--Daddy celebrated that b-day while I was in Boston. Then Nora's hamster--Lilly-turned 2 on Nov 4th. Here are the pictures from her b-day party.

This really makes me smile/laugh.. When we were kids, my parents got us all these little beanie-baby type stuffed animals on Valentine's Day. Most of them faded into obscurity (they didn't become Beloved Friends like some do), but Charlie had a duck, Quackie, that became his alter-ego. Quackie would get into trouble and make everyone laugh hysterically at the dinner table. It was like we had an extra person in the house, and Charlie never put him down. Every year on Valentine's day we had a birthday party for Quackie, and it was usually more exciting than our own birthday. Quackie would get wild and start hacking at the cake or throwing wrapping paper around. It was always a lot of fun. Charlie is 18 now, but probably a year and a half ago Quackie resurfaced and Charlie reverted back to the Quackie Voice and started to make all sorts of trouble.
