Grace like Rain

Can you feel it?!

It is pouring down all over you! Look up, close your eyes, taste it on your lips, and then take a drink from the only source that can satisfy your deepest longings.

God's grace is like rain pouring down all over me and my stains are COMPLETELY and TOTALLY washed away.

Putting it into perspective, AGAIN

I have been attempting to put together this post for days now, if not longer. I would sit for a minute, knowing what I want to say, but having the most difficult time getting it into actual words, that I would then be out of time--give up, and walk away.
While looking at the calendar, on my wall--which says June 2008--I have been struck with the fact that the summer has rushed by, quicker than I could obviously keep track of. (What kind of person can't take the time to change their calendar?--I missed an entire month plus a bit more!) There were days, during this particular summer, that felt as if they would NEVER end...days that I struggled to survive and watched the clock slowly pass every minute- into every hour, just aching for darkness, so I could sleep away the time that haunted me. Then there were days-- playing in mounds of sand, listening to the waves crash against the rocks, breathing in the salty air, hearing giggles surrounding me, and wishing time would just stand still...while I would attempt to 'bottle-up' that moment in whatever way possible. Then again, looking at my sad calendar display, I was struck with the realization that I spent too many days this year wishing I could sleep away time, not that time moved quicker because I spent days like that, but suddenly the time I spent 'in that state' felt like such a waste. Now noticing how quickly time, apparently, moves....what was I thinking-- soaking myself in the 'gloom', misery and letting myself just sit in it?! Of course every person has their moments, their days, and their 'situations', but looking back I see that SOME of those days were spent sulking over such trivial things...things that--in the bigger picture--really aren't worth a thought. Then today I bumped into this blog post (through another blog that I love) and it was exactly what I needed to hear. This post starts out. "If you are reading this, it means I have passed..."

"My journey in this world was difficult and painful but important in my spiritual growth. I learned that we have to be happy despite our circumstances. We can’t say I will be happy when…. No sweeties be happy now because today is all you have.

I learned that all the small stuff is very small and not worth your time and attention. Gossip and resentments, worrying about things that never happen, fearing the unknown. Let it go my lovelies, breath..."

Then I was also reminded of two friends, who lives were suddenly taken from us 4 years ago...this August 15th. (Info below taken from website) Read more about them HERE"Excerpts from Lindsay's journals are below. The last one was the one she wrote as she sat with Jason and watched the sun go down the very night that they were killed. It's very sweet to know that she and Jason spent their last moments in awe of God's creation here on earth. Only hours later, they were experiencing God's glory in heaven for the very first time, which is far greater than our human minds can comprehend!"

"I greatly desire to have many crowns to give my God when I get to heaven... Nothing on earth matters in light of eternity. It is so easy to get caught up in the things of the world and forget what really matters... How amazing that we have forever to spend with Christ! The more we worship and spend our lives for Christ on earth the better we can serve Him in heaven... I sometimes think of myself as a pilgrim in a foreign land traveling through life. We are here temporarily. I should be less materialistic and give more to God. Don't waste time!"

"The sun is going down in the horizon, and all I see is the beams shining on the cliff face, and I know that God is awesome. I look around and I see His creation all around me."

The last photo from Lindsay's camera.
That was the last thing she wrote in her journal before her life was suddenly taken from her...and that puts it all into perspective for me.

I have so much to learn.

"Come on, Rain"

A recent library selection became my absolute favorite. "Come on, Rain" by Karen Hesse
I highly recommend getting this book and saving it for a summer rain. Cuddle up, enjoy the fun descriptions, and read slowly to create a 'feel' for what is about to happen. When the book is finished, remove your shoes, and you will know what to do....
"It streams through our hair, and down our backs, it freckles our feet, glazes our toes, We turn in circles, glistening in our rain skin. Our mouths wide, we gulp down rain."

"We sure did get a soaking Momma, I say, as we head home, purely soothed, fresh as dew, turning towards the first sweet rays of the sun."
I sure got a soaking...hope you do too!

4yr olds

Since when is a 4 yr old so concerned about what they are wearing? I don't remember being that way, I don't remember Emma being that way, but Hannah and Nora....

they know what they want and how they want to wear it--from the top of their head down to their toes.

Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow.

Life takes an unexpected turn. The normal routine suddenly disappears and every day needs desperately to just be taken as it comes.
But...God is sovereign. God is loving. God is present.

telling a secret

I sat on the grass, with my camera of course, and watched my little beauties tell one another secrets.

I couldn't help but glow, and deep down wish that I could freeze this moment in time--forever....

Maybe it is because of 'Little House on the Prairie'

but Hannah and Nora have been coming downstairs for bed (for the past few weeks) with 'nightcaps' on.

I realized I was officially a mom when...

... I heard myself say at least 4 times today..."Stop complaining, when I was a kid...."
---"we went outside first thing in the morning, came in for lunch, went back out, came in for dinner, and didn't come in till the street lights came on, and even if we wanted to come in ya-ya would shove us out the door again."
---"we found ways to keep cool, we didn't need adults to demonstrate that for us."
---"we had to eat what was on our plate, without complaining, no exceptions--even if it made us gag."
---"it was hot in the summer (in the house, in the car, etc...). That was just the way it was and we smiled and enjoyed it."

I realized I was a mom and felt MY AGE when...fully clothed, and watching the girls struggle with understanding how to slide on a slip and slide ( the way I did when I was a kid), I told them to stand back and watch 'the real way' to slide. (fully clothed, I might add, and not once thinking that I was going to get wet....WHAT?!). So, I run, and run...jump into the air and belly flop on the VERY, VERY, HARD, Harder than I could ever imagine it would be, GROUND. (Well, I maybe slid---AN INCH!) The girls looked on--very concerned, and when I finally pulled myself off the ground and got on my feet, they said to me--"Mom, you got your clothes all wet". I went in the house, now fully aware, that my 30's are here.
I realized I was officially a mom, and maybe going BLIND when....I was bending over to pick something up off the floor, beside the kitchen table, and SLAMMED my forehead into the table on my way down. I about knocked myself out, and ended up with a large grape-sized welt above my right eye.
Well, that is about all the 'mom moments', well all that I care to share with you all, for now. Pics are from babysitting, treats from my garden, different tastes from summer that I wish I could just bottle up. The complaints about the heat well....my kids have been spoiled going from central air (that my husband likes to keep at 73 or so), to an air conditioned car, etc...and after getting my last power bill I decided to shut the air off...then my car was in the shop for 3 days so we were home a lot more than usual.
